Cause to Cook for a Cure – Eat for Equity

For over 15 years we have gathered friends and family together every winter in common cause to remember Gregory Marzolf Jr. and fulfill his dream – a tomorrow free of Muscular Dystrophy. Last year we gathered in spirit to continue this work. We hope you will again join us in spirit and enjoy the company of friends and family at your table while sharing the delicious, heartfelt offerings from Eat for Equity in support of the Greg Marzolf Jr. Foundation.

GMJF has partnered with Eat for Equity, a Minneapolis based non-profit that raises funds for other causes by promoting and hosting community feasts. They also had to shift gears with the pandemic and are focusing more on catering and meal boxes. Learn more at eatforequity.org.

Cause to Cook for a Cure: With Strength: Eat for Equity will provide meal boxes for up to 4 people including choice of entree, sides, salad, bread, and dessert for $200. Orders must be placed by Saturday, January 21st and will be delivered to your home on Saturday, January 28th.  You must live in the Twin Cities metro area to receive a meal box delivery. The fresh, locally sourced, ready to heat food will keep for about one week. Rave reviews were received last year!

All of the proceeds from each meal box will go to the Greg Marzolf Jr. Foundation to help support its mission to fund a tomorrow free of Muscular Dystrophy.

Why Donate This Year?

This year, we again ask you to fund the need – to support research for Muscular Dystrophy. With this year’s brochure, we wanted to showcase some of the incredible research happening at the University of Minnesota. The GMJF is the largest annual donor to the Muscular Dystrophy Center and an invaluable resource to local MD research. This is possible through the generous donors and members of our community who tirelessly believe in a tomorrow free of Muscular Dystrophy.

Thank you for continuing to support the GMJF’s mission to help fund new treatments and ultimately a cure to Muscular Dystrophy. It is through the strength of our community, the research on renewing the strength of the muscle, and the intense strength of those living with MD that we continue to find hope for the cure that tomorrow may hold. Why Donate This Year?

This year, we again ask you to fund the need – to support research for Muscular Dystrophy. With this year’s brochure, we wanted to showcase some of the incredible research happening at the U of MN on the heart. We all know the heart keeps the body running. For the Greg Marzolf Jr. Foundation, YOU are the heart. The strength, resilience and ever-present hope found in this community has kept the organization running and the belief in a cure possible.

As we head into heart month this February, we ask you to invest in the hearts of Muscular Dystrophy patients in Minnesota. With your help, we can fund more research and more treatment options, like the work being done by Drs. Lowe and Kamdar. Most of all, we ask you to think of the hearts of those living with Muscular Dystrophy – beating and hoping for a cure to their devastating disease. The Greg Marzolf Jr. Foundation was founded to help people with muscular dystrophy (MD) by raising awareness through philanthropic activities and supporting research for a cure to MD. The foundation works every day to make life better for all those struggling with MD.

Why Donate This Year?
We’ve asked you every year since 1982, when Greg Jr. was diagnosed, to help support research for a cure for Muscular Dystrophy. You saw the need when you watched Gregory wheel through Highland Fest or roll into church. When you joined the annual garage sale or golfed in a tournament. When you mingled over silent auction items or ran across the finish line.

And for the last 15 years, each January, the Greg Marzolf Jr. Foundation has asked you to fund the need for local research for Muscular Dystrophy. This year, although we can’t gather in person, we ask you again to fund the need.

You’ve seen the need as we have welcomed new Muscular Dystrophy families to tell their stories. To share their desperate need for a cure and introduce us to their smart, silly, and growing little boys. They tell us that things are getting better – there are new advances and new potential treatments on the horizon for their children. But we aren’t there yet.

As you can imagine, funding right now is hard to come by. It always has been – but it is especially so this year. Funds are being reallocated and resources shifted. While this is understandable, a cure for Muscular Dystrophy can’t be postponed. Time is of the essence.

A few years ago, one of the mothers who spoke said that with more funding for research, it takes less time to get to a cure. This year, more so than any other year, without your donation time is lost. Without your support, research will take longer or won’t happen at all. Without your support, our MD families’ hope for a cure will be stalled.

We know that this year is different for all of us, in so many ways. But it is different for our families living with MD hoping and waiting for a cure, too. So, again this year, we ask you to fund the need. To fund the ability for research to continue. To fund hope, in a year that has at times felt hopeless.
